Uppsala and its environs are marked distinctly by the life of Carl Linnaeus.
Buildings, fields, plants, and roads remain intact from the time of Carl Linnaeus.
The Linnaeus Landscape project focuses on these traces from the past and seeks to preserve them.
Eight paths used for natural history excursions by Linnaeus, called Herbationes Upsaliensis, still exist today. Linnaeus examined and collected plants along these paths as a student and later guided Swedish and foreign students as a world famous professor. Linnaeus bought the Hammarby Farm and lived there with his family for the last twenty years of his life. Here he carried out his research and teaching as well as planned his botanical garden and built a museum for his collections. We at Linnaean Landscapes wish to make these landscapes available for visitors and to bring the authentic atmosphere to life. Welcome to the Linnaean Landscapes of Uppsala! |
